First Things First...
Welcome to my blog where I will be covering local restaurants in Greeley and other restaurants in Northern Colorado. This blog will help me learn how to blog and also improve my journalistic writing. On this page, I will feature the popular and new restaurants that are in Greeley that might interest college students especially. You can expect to see information about new restaurants that will open soon in Greeley, including Luna's Taco's and Tequila in downtown. For the next six weeks, I will post three times a week about my food experiences in Greeley. Since I consider myself to have a sweet tooth, I hope to also do spotlights and the amazing desserts that I come across including cookies, cupcakes, and ice cream (Do your teeth hurt yet? Because mine do.)
I have about three years of experience in journalism since beginning my college education at the University of Northern Colorado. I have taken a wide variety of classes that make me a well rounded journalist, ranging from writing classes, photography, and video production/ editing. My choice to come the beat of local restaurants stems from my love of food and my opportunity to find the hidden gems of Greeley now that it is summer. My roommates and I are committed to finding at least one new restaurant to try in Greeley each week. This blog is a great way for me to document each and every experience.
One of my strengths as a journalist is that I can create strong and creative leads that will go along with my story. Creating good leads is important because this is what draws in the reader and influences them to keep reading the story. My weakness, rather, the area that I need to work on as a journalist is in grammar and AP style.
As for my blogging experience, I have experience that dates back to high school. The first blog was dedicated to my Senior Project and research which was presented at the end of the year to the faculty and students at the end of the year. It was here that I documented my progress and findings while doing research on how to create healthy habits and environment for students on high school campuses. My second blog was a design blog for another class I took in high school. In this course, we were asked to explore different ways of thinking and explored the idea of what it meant to truly fail at some things in life. We built various designs and models that challenged us to think critically and helped us form good team working, leadership, and communication skills.
I am very excited to start this blog and look forward to all of the new things that I will learn in the process. I look forward to improving my writing skills and to be able to present this to potential employers in the future.

I am really looking forward to reading more of your blog because I want to start exploring more restaurants in Greeley. I love that you get to go on little adventures to new places and I can't wait to read about what you find. Also, I like your idea to spotlight desserts because I love dessert and reading about anything sweet. Good luck with your blog!
ReplyDeleteI agree. This is a phenomenal idea, and it sounds like it'll be both entertaining to write and useful to follow! In fact, if you haven't thought about it already, you may consider comparing the restaurants you go to based on affordability or pricing, especially if you come across ones a lot of college students may not know about. Anyway, I look forward to reading more of your posts.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to reading your blog. I don't currently live in Greeley, however, when I visit, I find it hard to dine in Greeley, as I am a bit of a foodie, and it seems that Greeley is lacking in good food. I would really like if your reports on the restaurants included dietary accommodations! That would be helpful for people, like me, with food allergies!
ReplyDeleteI wish I would have thought of this. This is a really good idea and a really creative approach to blogging. I do not live in Greeley but I go to school every day including in the summer. I hope with your reviews I'll be able to find a new restaurant to try on my breaks.
