Final Thoughts

This post is a reflection of my blogging experience thus far. I have enjoyed writing posts weekly for this blog. It has been fun getting to blog about a topic that I thoroughly enjoy, which is food. Blogging has allowed me to improve my writing and my journalism skills.  I will continue blogging because I enjoy writing. Before, I was hesitant to start blogging again because I was worried about my consistency. I plan to continue blogging and I may even consider trying a new beat. I am interested in covering events and writing commentary on today's movies, music, and fashion.  My favorite part about blogging was that it allowed improve my writing and to be be creative in the way I tell stories. I think blogging is a good way to tell stories because it is a very accessible medium for any and everyone who is willing to share their story and voice their opinion.  As far as this class, enjoyed being a part of it. I like that everyone in the class got a chance to comm...

Right Coast Pizza

Image
You can never go wrong with a good slice of pizza, especially when that slice is from Right Coast Pizza . Located in downtown Greeley, it is one of two locations . The other restaurant is in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. Right Coast is a New Jersey Style pizza restaurant that also serves pizza by the slice. The thin crust pizza can come with either white or red sauce. There are a variety of specialty options to choose from including the Tillie pizza which has basil pesto, mozzarella, chicken, spinach, garlic, onions, mushrooms. I chose this pizza while going there to eat lunch on Monday. I substituted the chicken with tomatoes and I enjoyed the pizza very much. The restaurant also has a brewery. My drink of choice was the Bloody Mary. This was my first time having the drink and it was a good first try. The presentation of the drink was very appealing as well. I plan on going back to the restaurant, as they have proven that they have quality food and drink that I will enjoy every t...

More Tacos in Greeley

The time is quickly approaching for the grand opening of Luna's Tacos and Tequila . That is the new restaurant opening in downtown Greeley. The restaurant is located at 809 9th St., right next to  the Moxi Theater. It is a casual restaurant that will serve as lunch and late night dinner options. Eli Corliss is part owner of Luna's and the Moxi Theater. He says the restaurant will be a casual authentic  Mexican style restaurant and will be a great addition to the 9th street plaza strip. "I just thought how great would it be to bring late night tacos to the 9th street plaza."  Progress has steadily been made towards actually opening the restaurant, which has not been given an exact opening date. Signs on the building simply say "Opening Summer 2018". The restaurant has given updates on their Facebook page and revealed on June 4th that the kitchen hood had been delivered. The Facebook page also revealed that it was holding the first day of chef's t...

5 tips to save money but still eat out

Image
Saving money and enjoying good food at the same time seems to make a great combination. Yet, trying every raved and reviewed restaurant can be expensive ... eating out at a restaurant at all can start to add up. While it is cheaper and more budget friendly to eat food at home, sometimes you can't resist the urge to eat at your favorite restaurant. Here are some tips to eating out and saving money too. 1. Skip having an appetizer before you meal.  Add-ons to your meal can start to get expensive.  2. Make the appetizers your entire meal.  If you still want appetizers , order your whole meal straight from the appetizer menu. Most times the portions are smaller, but so is the price. Try skipping getting an appetizer or decline being offered the dessert menu. 3. Get water to drink. It's free and good for you to stay hydrated. 4. Split the bill.  When you're going out with friends, consider sharing a dish or two ...

The Paradox of Restaurants

Image
Let's face it, Americans love to eat food. Good food. Quality food. Even better when a meal at a restaurant has good quality food and drinks. The joys of eating at a restaurant come two fold: an opportunity for socializing and not having to dirty up your own dishes to enjoy a meal. The restaurant industry has for the most part been a booming industry, especially in urban cities like Portland, San Francisco and New Orleans. But according to an online article on The Atlantic , there is an unlikely paradox of restaurants in that the industry is also struggling. The author Derek Thompson breaks down some of the reasons why the restaurant industry is both prospering and struggling. The main and perhaps more obvious reasons are convenience and price. More people are opting for takeout options of restaurants instead of going to sit-down restaurants. With all of the quality restaurants, eating out can still be very costly. According to the money reports on CNBC online, American...

Thai Food at Thai One

Image
Thai food has become one of my favorite types of food recently. Mostly because of the delicious food that is at Thai One. Not only is it's name is clever, but the food at Thai One is at such a standard that each thai food restaurant I visit is always compared to Thai One. Thai One ( not to be confused with Sushi One)  is located at 2541 11th Ave. in  Greeley, which is conveniently within walking distance to the dorms at the University of Northern Colorado. And more to the convenience of the restaurant, it can be delivered to your home or dormitory through the delivery service Order Up . A resident assistant at UNC says she loves ordering Thai one because of the quality of food, and because of the convenience. "I love that I can order Thai One to my dorm. It is one of the favorite places to eat in Greeley, especially when I want some sushi." - Ashley Johnson  When I first went to the restaurant, I had a difficult time deciding what to eat because the menu is so ex...

Taco Tuesday on a Saturday

This week, I treated myself to dinner out at one of my favorite restaurants in Greeley. I went to Fuzzy's Tacos. Anytime I have a rough school week or just want a quesadilla or some nachos, I go to Fuzzy's. This time I chose to get the fish tacos and they did not disappoint.  For the sides, I got the cilantro lime rice with the latin fried potatoes. The latin fried potatoes have to be one of the best things on the menu. They are cooked to perfection, being just crispy enough to almost be like a french fry, but still has a nice consistency.  Fuzzy has to be known for their margarita though. Anyone walking into the restaurant has to at one point draw their attention to the margaritas because of how big they are. The recommended drink would have to be the Strawberry Margarita. The frozen beverage is a crowd favorite.  And for dessert... well anything on the dessert menu is great to me. The cinnamon-sugar churros are great, along with the sopapilla chips....

Vegetarian or Pescatarian?

Image
This week, I made the decision to change my eating habits a bit. I have decided to avoid eating meat for at least a month. However, I am still going to incorporate fish in my diet. This change will mean that I will be avoiding the burgers section of the menu for a bit and go more for the salads, meatless pastas and seafood section of the menu. I will be interested in seeing what Greeley restaurants are really more accommodating of dietary preferences such as vegetarians or vegans. As I have come to realize in this past week, it is not always easy to find things without meat in a lot of restaurants. In time, I'll get the hang of it. Making this change in my diet has helped me become more disciplined and my eating choices, and I find I am eating a lot less now. I also wanted to see how my body would change, hopefully for the better. I am excited to try foods that I would always glance over because there was no chicken, beef, or pork in the ingredients list. This will also all...

New and Improved: The Patio Pub and Grill

Image
The Patio Pub and Grill is a hidden treasure of downtown Greeley. If the name does not sound familiar, you may know it by its former name... The Tilted Kilt. That's right, The Patio is a transformed, new, and improved restaurant with the same idea behind the Tilted Kilt. Some of the changes included menu changes and uniform changes of the employees. About a month ago, the former Titled Kilt restaurant closed down temporarily as the restaurant got a new look and feel. In just a few short days the restaurant reopened and became The Patio. It remains at the same, rather tucked away, location at 610 9th Avenue in Greeley near the Hilton Doubletree. The change came after the restaurant owner had to make a quick decision about re branding the restaurant to make it more "family friendly". "We just want it to be a place that everyone can enjoy. I know there were some ideas about what the restaurant used to be, but we want to change that and rebrand."  The Patio ...
